Richard graduated from Imperial College London in 1988, and spent the first 9 years of his professional career in a retail environment, rising from salesman of a small shop to company director of a £9m pa retail and mail-order company, and manager of the PC products division. He has been programming computers since the early eighties, including machine-code, BASIC, Fortran, Prolog, Pascal and most recently the PERL scripting language.
